About Me.
My name is Katie Berg and I am a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education with a minor in Psychology. I am from Pierre, SD where most of my immediate family still resides. I have multiple family members who were teachers or are currently teachers so I have been around teaching my whole life. Throughout my time in schools as a student, I always seemed to pay attention to how my teachers were presenting information and what they would do as far as classroom management and procedures. This is when I started to think about becoming a teacher.
In one of my senior classes in high school, we were required to volunteer in our community and I chose to volunteer in a special education classroom for a semester. This was a higher needs classroom that had four students all day, but would go to specials with their classes. I really enjoyed the one-on-one work with them and getting to know the students. Due to this experience, it made me want to double major in Special Education. Throughout my Summers at home, I worked at a daycare where I was with school aged children each day. I tried incorporating what I had learned from previous teachers, from my college teachers, and experiences in my classes with this group of children. This ultimately confirmed my love of working with children. |
