Girl’s Group at Simle Middle School
For eight weeks in the Spring of 2018, a classmate and I co-lead leadership and empowerment lessons with a girls' group at Simle Middle School. We were aiming to help these young girls gain the skills to become leaders and encourage themselves or others in their daily lives, both at school or at home. Every week we prepared different activities along with a short lesson about either being a leader or how to empower themselves or others. These activities were paired with certain lessons to help the girls apply the skill to their lives. Middle school can be a difficult time for girls and I enjoyed seeing them break out of their comfort zones from the beginning to the end. The picture to the right shows a communication and team building activity. The girls needed to plan and construct the tallest tower using a limited amount of supplies. This also incorporated listening and leadership skills. |
Freezin’ for a Reason
This event took place in the Fall of 2017 and was put on to raise awareness and help people who are homeless in the Bismarck-Mandan community. We had three locations set up in places we thought were busy streets and would attract more people. We stood out in the cold weather and had bins set up so people in the community could stop by and donate clothes, food and blankets. This was a great event because it taught me to be humble and grateful for the opportunities and belongings I have. It also brought to my attention the amount of supplies and resources that are needed within our community.

Practicum 2 Volunteer Hours
In Fall of 2017, I volunteered in Miss Becker’s 2nd grade classroom at Rita Murphy Elementary before I completed my practicum. During my time here, I interacted with the students and assisted with various projects and activities. It was important to me to make connections with these students as this is where I would complete my practicum experience. I observed how the students reacted to classroom management and procedures to ensure a productive learning environment for when I taught my lessons.
